Rintani rakastavat plunge-rintaliivejä / My breasts love plunge bras

This illustration with my mad Paint skills show you, why high central gores don't work for me. The orange lines show where my breast tissue starts and you can see that there is not a lot of space between them for a higher central gores. Even though this pic is taken with a bra on, this is pretty much how my cleavage is without a bra, as well.
"If you have big breasts, you need to wear full cup bras with high coverage and high central gore". This is the most annoying misconseption I hear about big bras.

For some reason full bust companies tend to think that women with big breasts need or want high central gores. While of course some women do, in general this is not true! Lingerie brands still sell a lot of bras with high central gores, but I have a theory: women often buy too small bras, and therefore they do not even see how high the central gores are designed. And in a too small bra the central gore isn't usually tacking to your sternum anyway, so the higher central gore won't dig in anyway.

Why do low central gores and big breasts go well together, then? Because in a right size, the central gore just anchors the bra in place. In a too small size, the central gore is just "caging" the breast inside the bra and it then seems like the central gore needs to be really high to provide enough support. When in fact the central gore doesn't really support that much, it's there to provide an anchor to the bra and give stability. Most of the support, in fact, comes from the band and the whole wires.

Also, big breasts are often very close set. In those cases you do not have any room for high central gores to tack into place and they are just plain uncomfortable and dig in. This is the reason why I need low central gores to feel comfy. When I put a non-plunge bra on, the wires will always be digging on my breast tissue a bit. There just isn't room for high central gores between my breasts.

I don't think all full bust bras should have low central gores, not at all. It's just that in H+ or 38+ sizes there aren't many options fow lower gores. Many brands have insanely high central gores in the bigger cup sizes even in the models they call balconnettes (yes Panache and Curvy Kate, I'm looking at you...). To me, it doesn't make sense to make the same cut bra over and over again. Most lingerie brands should provide more variety to their customers. I mean, I love Elomi, but there is only two plunges in their collection. I do love them, but what I would love more if they provided something different as well, like a padded plunge. Other brands, like Panache, Freya, Fantasie, and Curvy Kate, do not make plunges above 38 band and most plunges only go up to a G cup. What's up with that?

I just wish brands would realize that there is a demand for low central gores in higher cup sizes and that with the right bra fitting education you can affect the bra styles women choose to have.

And yes, you also have to concider how low is a low central gore. I have actually never even tried a super low central gore, I believe all of my plunges are at least 2 inches tall in the gore. However, I think that as long as the central gore comes lower than the midway of your breasts, it is a low central gore. You could call it a plunge bra, but most often plunges are assosiated with low necklines or evening wear. When I say low central gore, I mean something that supports you enough to wear it everyday! It could be that you find your breasts falling in the middle of your very low plunges, but that only means that you need a central gore a bit higher. Also, there is the matter of coverage. You can have a low central gore and still have tons of coverage! That usually means that the cups for a deep V angle, covering most of the breast. The fabric of the cups help contain the tissue in its place and reduce the jiggle when you walk around.

I'm not saying low central gores work best for everyone. However, I do think they work a lot better than most people think. And there is no reason for companies to offer only high central gores, full cups and high balconnettes for full bust and obese women.

  1. Thank you for writing this as I have so many fuller-busted as well as fuller-figured customers who want and need more variety in gore height/silhouette. The Elomi plunges are awesome, but they could be branching out more and working on expanding past a HH cup. I was pleased to see they are offering a strapless up to the HH cup though this year though, so baby steps!

  2. Oh yes, I so agree. I can't go over a 3" gore. That requirement is very limiting.

What I hate the most is ordering a bra based on a picture of the gore appearing almost corded in a smaller band/cup, only to have it show up with a 4" gore in my size.

    Grrr.

    1. Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I also find my need for low central gores very limiting: there are only few bras out there that truly work for me. I can't do gores higher than 4 inches, and even 4 is a stretch for my breasts.

I was hopeful about the Parfair by Affinitas Charlotte now that they have expanded their size range. Unfortunately the gore seems to be somewhere around 4 inches in my size.

    2. This is such an interesting topic. It seems that I have many of the same issues as you do and you have really opened my eyes to a possible solution. I have been keeping away from plunge styles because the few that I have tried had my soft, shallow on top boobs falling into the center. However, I have recently been noticing that bras such as my Elomi Libby and Kenya are just not working. The wires are too wide, the cups near the gore too shallow and after a few hours they start to sit on breast tissue. This does not happen with my Abi(much lower center gore) or the Renee( higher center gore but much less wide pushing. shape). Weird huh? If I could find a plunge style with some depth that had "coverage" it might solve some problems. I have great hope for the Charlotte. How wonderful that it will come in larger cup sizes. Have just been hungering for a padded, firm style(afraid to order from Poland). Can't wait for the large cup Charlotte reviews to start coming in!

    3. Have you tried EM PL bras? They do have more depth and are a bit taller in the gore in bigger cups, at least. I hope the Charlotte will work for you! I believe many women below H cup have had great experiences with it.

  3. Agree with you 100%- I am short waisted with a narrow rib cage and all bras tend to squash me in because the cups are too shallow and the wires too wide- then to add insult to injury then the center gore is practically under my chin and showing through clothes,
Bravissimo make some J cup plunges but they sadly cut into my breasts too!

Hmph. Joutunee jossain kohti tsekkaamaan Cleon Judet tai jotain.

    1. Kiitos kommentistasi! Toivottavasti Judet toimivat sulle, olen NIIN kateellinen naisille jotka mahtuvat Cleon liiveihin. :D

Oletko kokeillut Freyan Decoa? Sehän on reiluhko kupiltaan, joten se voisi mennä sulle koossa 38G. Musta tuntuu, että Sokoksella on Decoa kokoon 38G asti. :-)

Oikean liivikoon löytäminen on todellakin salatiedettä!

Tosiaan Bravissimon Satinet on tosi pidettyjä, niitä voisit ehkä kokeilla joskus. :-)
